This past week Pipe Management Australia (PMA) and Brisbane City Council were featured in a story on Brisbane’s 7 News with Councillor Kim Marx discussing flood recovery works.
PMA has been working with Brisbane City Council on the flood recovery as their tier one contractor providing both CCTV inspections of drains and cleaning.
Around 367km is believed to have been impacted during the flood event, with 316km already inspected using PMAs CCTV pipe inspection technology.
As a result PMA identified drains that contained pollutants such as oil deposits. These required specialised cleaning to remove the oil from the drains and prevent damage to Brisbane’s waterways and natural habitats.
So far, approximately 15km of enclosed drainage has been jetted for cleaning.
Additionally, 8,078 disaster-impacted gullies have been inspected with 312 gullies requiring cleaning, which has already been completed.
Channel 7 and Councillor Kim Marx, Chair of City Standards joined PMA on one of our inspection and cleaning projects to gain a deeper understanding of our jetting and inspection technology.
Councillor Marx even tried her hand at operating one of PMAs CCTV Inspection tractor units after sharing updates with the media on the progress of flood recovery efforts.
To conclude, a timely reminder from the Councillor: everyone can play their part in keeping our stormwater network clear. From lawn clippings to leaves and plastic litter, it can all block stormwater drains or make its way into our rivers. Be mindful of what you allow down the drain!
