With the bioreactor last cleaned five years earlier, the job called for careful planning, a crane and man cage for safe access, and a ten-person crew backed by six combination vacuum jetter trucks. Additional challenges included safely manoeuvring the man cage into the bioreactor and managing the pumping and cleaning of the clarifier during periods of rain, which added further complexity to site operations and delivery planning.
As the bioreactor had not been cleaned for five years, the works also required a practical and methodical approach to ensure the clean was completed thoroughly, safely and with minimal disruption to plant operations.
